Shirley Community Litter Pickers with a Bluestar Representative

A local initiative, to clear litter from the streets of Shirley in Southampton, has received a cash donation from Bluestar.

Shirley Community Litter Pickers are benefitting from the local bus operator’s community fund, and will use the £300 to buy new litter picking equipment. The group, which is open to anyone, has been conducting monthly litter picks across the local community for more than five years. Its volunteers are children and adults - including those with learning difficulties, and young people taking part in awards schemes.

“This is a fantastic local initiative, which has a positive and significant impact on our environment, so we’re delighted to be able to help buy some more equipment,”

“We’re always keen to cement good relationships with those living within our local communities - and this donation is part that. It also ties in wonderfully with our bid to improve air quality and help lower emissions in Southampton - by encouraging people to leave their cars at home and use sustainable transport instead.”

The Bluestar community fund is open to applicants in January and July. To apply, visit the Bluestar Community Fund and provide details about you're cause, what you need, and the difference the support might make to your organisation.

Congratulations to Shirley Community Litter Pickers!
