Our Bluestar bus at the Sholing community Veracity Fun Day

As part of our Community Fund, we chose to support a recent community event designed to consult local people about how their neighbourhood can be improved.

We sent one of our buses to a celebration and fun day at the Veracity Recreation Ground in Sholing to give people a chance to jump on-board and meet one of our drivers.

“The neighbourhood group based at the Veracity Recreation Ground contacted us through our community fund to see if we’d like to attend its special consultation event - and we jumped at the chance,” said Bluestar general manager, Richard Tyldsley.

Since the event was designed to find out, from local people, the improvements they would like to see happen here, we thought it would be an excellent opportunity to take a bus along and get some feedback on our services here.

The day was a huge success - a great community celebration - and we were very pleased with the response we had from those who attended. The families who brought children had a particularly good time on-board the bus and in the driving seat.

We are committed to building strong relationships within the neighbourhoods we serve here in Southampton, so our team was delighted to attend. We will consider very carefully the thoughts we received from our customers here - and wish the community group all the very best in its bid to connect the Sholing community with future fun and wellbeing initiatives.”

Revd Garry Roberts, vicar of Sholing, and member of the Veracity Life team, added:  “We had an incredible time at the Veracity Fun Day, with hundreds of people coming together to have fun - and to share what we love about our community and what could make it even better. We love our neighbourhood, and we're excited about doing something new here together with our community. We were so glad that Bluestar were able to be so generous and to send one of their buses - it was so popular, and people were queuing for ages to have go in the driver's seat!”

As our lovely driver Hayley did this on a voluntary basis, we will also be donating £100 to a charity of their choice to further show our support!
