Lordshill Rainbows and leaders holding Bluestar bus cut out

We are reinforcing our commitment to supporting local community organisations this week - by partnering up with 1st Lordshill Rainbows Girl Guides.

We are donating £500 to the unit, to be put towards insurance costs for leaders and young leaders.

“We are a girlguiding unit for ages four to seven, and we give girls the opportunity to learn about their community and what they can do to help keep it a nice place to live,” said Lisa Duffill, rainbow owl at 1st Lordshill Rainbows.

“We teach them about the world and our country. Importantly, the girls learn to be themselves and to help one another.

“For local people to be able to volunteer as a girlguiding leader, we have to pay insurance per leader and young leader. Without this, we are unable to run our sessions - which means girls would not be able to enjoy this safe space outside of school.

“With the cost of living crisis increasing, leaders are struggling to find this cost - so we turned to Bluestar’s community fund. We were delighted to receive £500, which will really help our unit to remain open.”

Bluestar operations manager, Chrysie Papanicolaou, added: “This is an incredibly worthy cause, and an important local resource.

“We are always keen to build strong relationships with those living within the areas in which we operate.

“Helping these Guides continue to enjoy their programmes - with the opportunity to learn new skills - is an absolute pleasure.”
