We are marking International Women's Day with a special event

We are marking International Women's Day this year by holding a special event on Saturday 8 March, aimed at encouraging more women into the bus industry.
Some of our female team members will be on hand outside West Quay to talk about their own experiences and answer questions about working for Bluestar - plus there will be an opportunity to book a driving experience at our depot at Empress Road.
The theme of International Women's Day this year is 'Accelerate Action' so we are inviting women in Southampton to accelerate their careers with Bluestar.
"Across the UK, women are still vastly under-represented in this field - although this is improving at Bluestar with 12 new female drivers in the last year - and seven due to start soon. We are aiming to double that figure this coming year and are working hard to encourage more to consider working within the bus industry as a driver or engineer,” said Bluestar head of communications, Nikki Honer.
“We often hear from women that they don’t feel they could drive a bus. We know this is not the case. If they can drive a car, we will teach them the rest. With the right training, it’s far easier than many might think."
We're looking forward to welcoming lots of potential Bluestar team members on 8 March. This could just be for an informal chat with our friendly team members - or even an interview if they bring their ID and driving licence with them.
Our distinctive pink double decker bus will join us in the Albion Place bus hub, close to West Quay and our reps will be around between 9am and 3pm.
