Baby Necessities in Romsey has recently been announced as the first of two winners of our January round for the Community Fund.

We recently threw our support behind the local baby bank which provides clothes and equipment to families with children up to five years old who are experiencing hardship. Instead of a cash donation, we donated a variety of essential items to the cause - mainly products that were needed under high priority - during a visit to their bank in Romsey.

Baby Necessities is a non-profit charity, started by local mums during the Covid-19 pandemic. The aim of the group is to alleviate child poverty in the area by providing new and good quality pre-owned clothes and equipment, and to promote recycling of second-hand items, in order to protect the environment and reduce unnecessary waste. The charity gives new and pre-loved clothes, equipment, toiletries and toys to vulnerable people in-and-around Southampton however, there are some items - like cot mattresses, bottle teats, breast pumps and baby monitors - that must be bought new. That is why we chose to donate particular items that were important and not necessarily donated very frequently.

“We approached Bluestar through its community fund application process, and were delighted to receive £250 worth of supplies. This will help multiple children in the local community, and will make a huge difference to the lives of their families.” said Hayleigh Jarvis from Baby Necessities.

Baby Necessities do a wonderful job helping local families and this is exactly the type of organisation that our community fund is designed to support! We are delighted that we have been able to help, so that vulnerable people living in our community have access to essential items during these challenging times.

Our Community Fund is open to applicants twice a year, during January and July so if you didn't manage to submit your application this time, it will re-open again soon!
