Southampton Sunday Lunch Project receives support from our Community Fund
3 years ago

We recently provided support to local community group Southampton Sunday Lunch Project - a group that aims to reduce social isolation and hunger in the local area.
Southampton Sunday Lunch Project was founded in 1990, and invites local adults to its centres in Woolston and St Denys every Sunday. With no questions asked, each guest enjoys a hot meal in a warm, welcoming, friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
“Our regular lunch guests visit us for a variety of reasons,” said Martin Thorpe from Southampton Sunday Lunch. “Some may have temporarily fallen on difficult times, whilst others are in need of support and company. We don’t mind why they’re here - they receive a free meal with no booking, referral or name required.
In order to support their guests in this way, they rely on the public, companies and organisations to provide donations. They welcome every penny - which goes directly to helping local people, as they operate totally with fantastic volunteers.
We donated a weeks worth of food to the cause, and our time to go down to one of their locations and help prepare the Sunday lunch. The rest of the money will go towards future meals.
Southampton Sunday Lunch Project is a hugely important resource for local people. Without it, many would experience very little interaction with others, and some may not have the opportunity to enjoy a hot meal.
We were delighted to be able to lend our support, and hope it provided an enjoyable Sunday lunch to some of those who travel with us within the local community.
Our Community Fund is open to applicants twice a year, during January and July so if you didn't manage to submit your application this time, it will re-open again soon!
