About Bluestar

Bluestar Logo

Bluestar started life under the Solent Blue Line name, as a subsidiary of Southern Vectis, in 1987. With its striking yellow and blue colour scheme, at the time, it offered the people of Southampton a fresh and new alternative in bus travel. We’ve changed a lot since then as we keep on evolving, but our current network of bus services in Southampton, Winchester, the Waterside and many places in between makes Bluestar the main inter-urban bus operator in Southern Hampshire.

We continually invest in our buses and technology. From the latest modern fleet offering Euro 6 engines and start-stop technology in our commitment to clean air, and offering our customers enhancements like free wifi and USB chargers so they can make the most of their journey time with us. Our buses, now with their striking star design, are easy to spot - and they certainly stand out amongst the crowd.

We continue to invest in technology and now all of our buses accept contactless payments offering more convenience to those wishing to travel. Our investment in off-bus ticketing technology makes bus travel available to buy online from the comfort of an armchair with our smartcard; theKey. and tickets can also be bought instantly through our mobile app; Clickit2ride.

It is a goal to remain the leading friendly operator throughout Southampton.

We also operate Unilink, created in 2001, to transport University staff and students between teaching sites and halls of residence, whilst also providing a service that is open for everyone to use. In 2017 we celebrated carrying 40 million customers, which is a fantastic milestone.

Our strong relationship with the University of Southampton means we can offer joint-ticketing across our Unilink and Bluestar networks - giving our customers a much wider choice.

We pride ourselves on our customer service, punctuality and ease of use. All buses are low floor and easy access - and we have spaces available for wheelchair users.

Go South Coast

Go South Coast is wholly owned by the Go-Ahead Group and is one of its largest companies in the Bus Division, and certainly its most diverse. This complex but rewarding portfolio of businesses provides continuous opportunities to work closely together to give the very best customer experience.

We are proud to currently hold the prestigious title of UK Bus Operator of the Year for 2017 as well as Top Shire Operator.

Go South Coast operates across the South with its core brands based in the bustling towns and cities of Bournemouth, Poole, Salisbury, Southampton, Swindon and the Isle of Wight. Our network of comprehensive services also stretches across the wider, rural parts of Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

We operate a fleet of over 850 buses which run on over 140 bus routes. All of our buses are locally branded to give local identity to the towns we operate in.

The company’s portfolio of operators include Bluestar, Damory, Hants & Dorset Trim, Excelsior, morebus, Salisbury Reds, Southern Vectis and Swindon’s Bus Company, Tourist Coaches.

These networks are mainly commercially operated, but there is significant involvement in the tendered local bus market, together with school and college services. The prestigious contracts to operate bus services for the University of Southampton on the Unilink network, and Bournemouth University on the UNIBUS are currently held.

Currently employing over 1,900 people, we believe in investing in and developing our employees. Colleague training is a focus for our business to develop new skills to enable us to serve our customers well.  We remain committed to the communities we serve and are always looking at new ways to engage with them. Our stakeholder relationships are vital to our continued success.

Our values at Go South Coast are trusting people and taking personal responsibility, being down to earth 'can-do' people, building relationships and working together and staying one step ahead and being adaptable. This all contributes to us being the company that people want to work for, travel with and use.
