Bluestar driver praised for helping vulnerable young passenger in need

A Southampton mother has praised local bus operator Bluestar for the actions of one of its drivers.
Sarah Mears from Thornhill wrote to the firm explaining that her son, who has nine different conditions, accidentally got on the wrong bus on his way home from school.
“He got on the number 7 instead of the 9,” said Sarah. “Even though Taylor quickly realised he was heading the wrong way he was too worried to say anything, so ended up in Southampton city centre.
“Taylor explained as best he could to the driver - who then called me to explain what happened and to reassure me that he would make sure my son got on the right bus to take him home. Honestly, if he had just dropped Taylor off into town anything could have happened because he is extremely vulnerable. Now he is home safe-and sound - and I couldn’t be more grateful to this wonderful Bluestar driver.
“He quickly realised my son needed assistance and he took the time to go out of his way, even though he had a job to do.”
Driver Mike Rogers added: “I could see Taylor was upset and needed help. My role as a bus driver is to ensure the safety of my passengers - and this was just an example of that. I don’t think any of us as human beings would leave a vulnerable child to navigate their own way home, so I have no doubt any of my colleagues would done the same. I’m pleased that Taylor is safe and well - and I hope he has more enjoyable bus journeys in future.”
Sarah and Taylor 12 recently met up with Mike at Bluestar’s travel shop to thank him again for his actions.
