Contrary to many people’s perceptions, traveling by bus is safe and the number of recoded incidents on our vehicles are extremely low. We are looking at ways to ensure people feel safe, including the introduction of CCTV cameras on board vehicles and increasing the presence of on-board staff.

We also have strong links with the local constabularies and welcome all uniformed officers to travel on our buses free of charge. This helps to reassure those on our buses who may have to put up with behaviour on our buses from the very small minority. We are also working closely with the local police force in Southampton to increase their presence on evening and Night services. Together, we’re being proactive - and dealing with situations before they happen - rather than reactive.
However, we can always do more to make the areas we serve even better and safer places to live and work.
CrimeStoppers is a national charity whose purpose is to make reporting crime and criminal activities easier. The CrimeStoppers campaigns need our help to keep us, our neighbours and our property protected.
Calls to CrimeStoppers are anonymous and the information could be vital in stopping potential crime or reporting knowledge of existing crimes. Calls are not recorded and telephone numbers are not captured – the call won’t appear on your telephone bill – so know one will know you phoned.
Bluestar and CrimeStoppers are progressively working together to bring about safer communities by using our own publicity, facilities and vehicles to highlight their work and how we can all play our part.
