Supporting the Poppy Appeal

Bluestar is determined to boost the Poppy Appeal promoted in the area this year by the Southampton branch of the Royal British Legion. Giant poppies have been purchased with a donation of £750 and applied to the fleet of single and double deck buses used on both the Bluestar and Uni-link networks.  The drivers have also been keen to support the work of the Royal British Legion by making donations to obtain their own personal poppies to be worn on their uniform.  The Bluestar Box on Bargate Street in Southampton city centre will also be collecting from members of the public in a bid to double the donation already made.

Archie Parsons of the Royal British Legion thanked Bluestar management team and staff for their support: “Not only should we remember those employees of Southampton’s bus companies who were killed in action or by enemy action in the two world wars, but support the Royal British Legion that will provide future help to members and their families involved in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Anyone wishing to make a donation or support to the Southampton Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal can contact Archie Parsons on 02380 227862.

Meanwhile, bus drivers on routes operated by Bluestar, Uni-link and other Go-Ahead Group companies in the south will be allowed to park and switch their engines off to join the two minutes silence on Wednesday, 11 November at 11 am, and hope that our customers will join us in remembering those at this important time of year.
