Diversions around Shirley from 28 July

Bluestar 4 and 18 in the Shirley area are affected by road closures, which will be completed in three different stages. This is likely to cause disruption for around five weeks.

Contractors now expect to complete Stage 2 by Monday evening, 4 August.

Stage 2 – stops at Shirley Precinct can not be served. Heading out of the city centre, buses will divert via Shirley Avenue, Victor Street and Anglesea Road. Heading towards the city centre is as reverse of this route. Buses will pick up and drop off at a temporary stop at Victor Street (at the rear of Sainsbury’s) instead of at the front of the Precinct.

The entire road works project was scheduled to be completed by 29 August although this is subject to change dependent upon the contractors progress.

Stage 3 of the road works will begin on Tuesday morning, 5 August, with diversions to Bluestar 4 and 18 as follows: Shirley High Street and Shirley Road are closed between Shirley and Foyes Corner. Heading out of the city centre and after serving Central Station, buses will travel via Shirley Road to Foyes Corner and then divert via Paynes Road, Millbrook Road, Regents Park Road and Park Street, resuming normal route at Shirley Precinct. Buses will pick up and drop off at normal bus stops along these roads. Heading towards the city centre, buses will serve Shirley Precinct and then divert via Park Street, Regents Park Road, Millbrook Road and Paynes Road to Shirley Road at Foyes Corner where the normal route will be resumed. and divert from Redbridge Hill, Romsey Road, Anglesea Road, Victor Street, Church Street, St James Road, Raymond Road. Buses will pick up and drop off at normal bus stops along these roads.

Stage 4 – as previously mentioned on this web site, this stage will now observe the same route diversions as Stage 3. All buses will observe the same diversion from 5 August until the road works are completed.
