Southampton Marathons & 10K - Sunday 22 April

On Sunday 22 April, many roads in and around Southampton will be closed owing to the Southampton full & half marathon and 10K races between 08:00 and 16:00hrs*. Our bus network will be greatly affected by diversions and as such we will be operating special timetables on most routes during this day. Please see below for a diversion summary of each route, the affected times, and a link to the special timetable.

 

*Parts of Above Bar Street and Commercial Road will be closed from 07:00 on Saturday 21 April through to 20:00 on Sunday 22 April. Click here for our diversion plans for Saturday 21 April.


Bluestar services:


Bluestar 1

To Winchester:

From the start of service to 13:00: Buses will start at West Quay (Stop BS) and will serve Asda/Marlands and BBC Studios before running via Hill Lane and Burgess Road to resume normal route at Bassett Crossroads.

During this time, we will be unable to serve: Hanover Buildings (Stop CU), Above Bar Street (Stop AC), The Cenotaph (Stop HD), London Road (Giddy Bridge & Law Courts) and The Avenue (Archers Road, Stag Gates, Northlands Road, Oakmount Avenue & Avenue Subway). Bus stops on The Avenue will still be served by the Unilink U1 service. Please see below for more information and times.

Between 13:00 & 16:00: Buses will operate normal route but will be unable to serve the Cenotaph, London Road & Law Courts bus stops (Please use Above Bar Street, Stop AC or The Avenue, Archers Road during this time)

To Southampton:

From the start of service to 13:00: Buses will divert from The Avenue, Holly Hill via Winchester Road and Hill Lane.

During this time, we will be unable to serve: The Avenue (Bassett Crescent, Bassett Crossroads, Avenue Subway, Oakmount Avenue, Northlands Road, Stag Gates, Archers Road) and London Road (Law Courts & Giddy Bridge) and The Cenotaph and Civic Centre.

Between 13:00 and 16:00: Buses will run normal route but cannot serve London Road (Law Courts & Giddy Bridge) and the Cenotaph.

Bluestar 2

To Eastleigh/Fair Oak:

From the start of service to 13:00: Buses will start at West Quay (Stop BS) and will serve Asda/Marlands and BBC Studios before running via Hill Lane and Burgess Road to resume normal route at Swaythling Market Buildings.  (With the exception of the 08:20, which can serve Lodge Road and Portswood Road as normal.)

During this time, we will be unable to serve: Hanover Buildings (Stop CU), Above Bar Street (Stop AD), The Cenotaph (Stop HD), London Road (Giddy Bridge & Law Courts), The Avenue (Archers Road), Lodge Road (Stag Gates & Cedar Road) and Portswood Road (Spring Crescent, Waitrose, Broadway, Sainsburys, Bowden Lane, Sirdar Road, Mayfield Road, Woodmill Lane and Swaythling McDonalds). Passengers for Portswood: A shuttle bus will operate between the City and Portswood. Between 13:00 & 16:00: Buses will operate normal route but will be unable to serve the Cenotaph, London Road & Law Courts bus stops (Please use Above Bar Street Stop AD or The Avenue, Archers Road during this time)

To Southampton:

Buses scheduled to arrive between 09:00 & 13:15: will divert from Swaythling, Market Buildings via Burgess Road & Hill Lane to West Quay (Passengers in Portswood for the City should use the Portswood shuttle see below)

Bluestar 3

To Southampton:

The 08:45 & 11:47 departures from Boorley Green will divert from Six Dials via Kingsway to terminate at Houndwell Place (Debenhams).

To Botley/Boorley Green:

The 10:00 & 13:00 departures from Southampton will start at Houndwell Place (Debenhams) and leave 15 minutes earlier than usual (at 0945 and 1245). They will divert nonstop to Hedge End (Turnpike Way). Usual stops between Bargate Street and Moorhill Roundabout will be unserved. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Bluestar 4 & 17

From Southampton:

From start of service to 13:00: Buses will start at Castle Way then serve Asda/Marlands & BBC Studios to resume normal route at Central Station.

During this time, we will be unable to serve: Vincents Walk (Stop CM), Above Bar Street (Stop AF) and Commercial Road (Stop HF).

To Southampton:

Buses into the city centre are unaffected.


Bluestar 7: City-Sholing

From the start of service until 14:00: A shuttle will operate, serving Sholing, Wrights Hill, Woolston Cricketers Pub, Spring Road & Bitterne. Passengers for the City Centre should change onto a Bluestar 18 at Bitterne during this time.

Bluestar 7: City-General Hospital

From the start of service until 14:00: Buses will only be able to run between Aldermoor/General Hospital and Central Station. Buses will then serve SeaCity Museum/BBC Studios, Asda/Marlands and West Quay. Normal stops at Vincent’s Walk, Above Bar Street and Commercial Rd will not be served.

Bluestar 16

From start of service to 14:30: A shuttle service will operate between Townhill Park & Bullar Road via Bitterne. Passengers for City Centre should change onto a Bluestar 18 at Bitterne during this time.

Bluestar 18: City-Thornhill

To Southampton:

From start of service to 14:30: Buses from Thornhill will operate every 15 mins between Thornhill, Bitterne & Bullar Road and every 30 mins into the City Centre.

To Thornhill from Southampton:

From start of service to 14:30: Buses will operate up to every 30 mins from Houndwell Place (Debenhams) running non stop direct to Thornhill, before continuing on to Bitterne.

To Thornhill from Bullar Road:

Buses will run normal route via Bitterne up to every 30 mins.

Cross-City travel on Bluestar 18 will be severely impacted between 07:30 & 14:00.

Bluestar 18: City-Millbrook

From start of service to 14:00: Buses will operate between Millbrook and Central Station then serve SeaCity Museum/BBC Studios, Asda/Marlands and West Quay. Normal bus stops at Vincent’s Walk (Stop CL), Above Bar Street (Stop AF), Commercial Road (Stop HF) will not be served.

Cross City travel on Bluestar 18 will be severely impacted between 07:30 & 14:00

Bluestar 6, 8, 9 & 12 will be not be subject to any diversions and will operate to normal Sunday timetables.


Unilink:


U1

Between 09:30 & 13:30: Buses between Highfield Campus and the City/NOCS will divert from Highfield Interchange via The Avenue to Stag Gates then via Dorset Street, St Andrews Road and Kingsway to Queensways (Debenhams). Buses from Southampton between 09:00 & 13:30 will only pick up at Queensways (Debenhams) and Stag Gates.

- Passengers between Highfield & Portswood should use the U6 during this time.
- Passengers between Portswood & City Centre should use the Portswood Shuttle during this time
- Passengers for Central Station should use the U2.
- NOCS will be unserved during this time

U2

Between 08:15 & 16:00: Buses will divert between Boldrewood Campus and Central Station/Mayflower Halls via Hill Lane. Stops between Avenue Campus & The Cenotaph will not be served. Passengers for Avenue Campus or College Place should use the U1 during this time.

U6

Between 09:00 & 14:00: A shuttle will operate between the General Hospital running normal route to Highfield Interchange, then an anticlockwise loop serving Welbeck Avenue, Portswood (Sainsburys), Swaythling McDonald's, Highfield Interchange and back to General Hospital. Passengers between Portswood & City Centre should use the Portswood shuttle. See below.

Other services:


Quayconnect

Between 08:00 & 13:00: Buses between Central Station & Town Quay will divert in both directions via West Quay Road. Alternative Stop for West Quay is available outside IKEA on West Quay Road.


Portswood Shuttle

A Special shuttle service will be in operation during the period when Bluestar 2 and Unilink U1, and U6 are unable to serve Portswood.

Buses will run up to every 20 minutes from Portswood Broadway via Bevois Valley, RSH Hospital and Kingsway to Houndwell Place (Debenhams).

Where can I catch my bus from in the City Centre during the diversions?

For Shirley, Millbrook, General Hospital, Lordshill, Romsey: Castle Way (Stop BI) or Asda/Marlands (Stop AJ).

For Bassett, Chandlers Ford, Winchester, Swaythling, Eastleigh, Fair Oak: West Quay (Stop BS) or Asda/Marlands (Stop AJ).

For The Avenue, Highfield, Wessex Lane, Airport: Queensway, Debenhams (Stop CR).

For Portswood, Bitterne, Thornhill, Hedge End: Houndwell Place, Debenhams (Stop CP).

For Totton, Hythe, Waterside & New Forest: Normal stops at West Quay or Asda/Marlands.
